This A5 postcard, designed by Emma Carlow, is inspired by the thaumatropes in our museum collection. When each circle is carefully cut out and the matching pairs are glued together with a cocktail stick sandwiched between, a magic image appears when you spin the stick between their palms (film coming shortly).

This happens because of the basic animation principle called "Persistance of Vision" (visit our museum to learn more about early optical toys!)

There are instructions on the front and a message and address space on the back. Note: cocktail stick not included.
