Whizz, Jump, Spin, Hoot, Run, Flutter and Fly: New autumn exhibition of dynamic toys

Toys with simple movements using the natural forces of breath, wind, gravity, wound string; things squeezed, jiggled or linked to make surprising actions – dynamic toys have delighted and taught children about the world of physical forces since ancient times.

Discover these intriguing playthings at Pollock’s Toy Museum’s new international exhibition in the Croydon museum pop-up, and make a moving toy of your own in our drop-in family workshops, on Saturdays from 11.30am-3.30pm.

For teachers and adults we are holding a special half-day workshop with inspiring artist, teacher, and collector Tony Hayward, on Wednesday 24 September. You will be able to handle examples, and have a go at designing and making moving toys using a variety of physical principles. Find out more and book here.

Exhibition opens Saturday 27 September and runs until January 2026.
